Pink zingt ‘When I get there’ uit liefde voor haar overleden vader
“Soms verlaat de liefde ons te vroeg,” schrijft zangeres Pink op Twitter op de dag dat ze het nummer ‘When I Get there’ uitbrengt: Valentijnsdag. Een lied voor haar vader, die in augustus 2021 overleed.
“Soms verlaat de liefde ons te vroeg. Op Valentijnsdag koester ik de liefde die ik kan aanraken, én de liefde die ik in mijn hart heb voor hen die heengingen naar het volgende avontuur,” Twitterde Pink. “Deze is voor jou Daddy Sir.”
Gevoelloos
Het lied helpt de zangeres om bij haar gevoelens te komen. “Ik rouw niet op een normale manier, zoals ik anderen zie rouwen. Het lijkt wel of zij directe toegang tot het verdriet hebben. Maar ik werd gewoon gevoelloos. Het kost me heel veel tijd om die koffer uit te pakken, en dit lied helpt me daarbij,” vertelt Pink in een interview in Womens Health.
When I Get There
When I get there bezingt hoe Pink nog vaak aan haar vader denkt, bijvoorbeeld als ze nadenkt over de eeuwigheid. Maar ook plotseling als ze een film kijk die hij niets zou vinden of als ze een grap hoort die hij veel beter had verteld. Vervolgens vraagt ze zich af of haar vader ook aan haar denkt, en hoe het met hem gaat.
